The NEET exam is fast approaching. For many students, this is the most crucial phase—the final countdown that decides their rank, future college, and medical career. If you're aiming for a score above 700, it might feel overwhelming right now, especially if you think there's too much to revise and too little time. But the truth is, last-minute preparation is not about studying everything again. It is about being smart, focused, and strategic. With the right mindset and approach, even the final days before NEET can boost your score significantly.
The first step to effective last-minute preparation is clarity. You need to understand that the goal now is not to cover new topics or open new books. Instead, your mission is to revise what you already know and strengthen the areas where you're most confident. Revising the high-weightage chapters from NCERT textbooks, especially in Biology and Chemistry, can give you a big advantage. Biology, for instance, can be almost entirely covered through NCERT. Reading the text line-by-line, understanding diagrams, remembering definitions, and practicing previous year MCQs based on NCERT lines can help you master the subject. The more familiar you are with the textbook, the faster and more accurately you can attempt Biology questions.
In Chemistry, it's important to divide your time effectively among Physical, Organic, and Inorganic sections. Physical Chemistry requires you to recall formulas and solve problems quickly. For this, solving numericals from chapters like Mole Concept, Thermodynamics, and Electrochemistry on a daily basis will build your speed. In Organic Chemistry, reaction mechanisms, named reactions, and conversions need to be revised clearly, especially through short notes and flowcharts. Inorganic Chemistry, on the other hand, is theory-based, and the best source remains NCERT. You should revise topics like periodic properties, coordination compounds, and p-block elements with complete attention to every line and example mentioned in the textbook.
Physics is often the most challenging subject for NEET aspirants. At the last minute, the best way to prepare for Physics is to revise all the key formulas and solve problems based on them. Avoid solving too many new or unfamiliar questions now. Instead, focus on understanding the logic behind common questions and practicing previously asked questions. Concentrate on chapters like Mechanics, Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Modern Physics, and Thermodynamics, which often carry significant weightage. Try to solve at least 50 to 70 questions every day under a timer. This will not only improve your calculation speed but also build the confidence you need to tackle the Physics section calmly in the exam.
Another powerful tool in the final days of NEET preparation is mock testing. Giving full-length mock tests under real exam conditions can train your brain to handle pressure. But remember, just attempting a mock test is not enough. You must analyze each paper in detail. After every test, take time to go through every question, identify the ones you got wrong, and understand why you made the mistake. Was it a conceptual error, a silly mistake, or just a lack of time? Maintain a notebook where you record these errors, and revisit them every few days. This process can help you avoid repeating the same mistakes on the actual exam day. Over time, you’ll notice patterns in your thinking and gradually improve your performance.
In this final stretch, managing your time during the exam becomes equally important. A good time strategy would be to start with Biology, as it's the fastest and most scoring section. If you can complete it within 50 to 55 minutes, you’ll have enough time left for Chemistry and Physics. Chemistry should be completed in the next 45 to 50 minutes, leaving you with about an hour for Physics. The last 10 to 15 minutes should be reserved for checking answers, marking the OMR sheet carefully, and revisiting difficult questions.
Apart from academics, mental strength plays a major role in the last phase of preparation. You must take care of your health, get adequate sleep, and avoid unnecessary stress. Sleep at least 6.5 to 7 hours every night to allow your brain to retain what you've studied. Don’t pull all-nighters or change your routine abruptly. Take short breaks after every 90 minutes of focused study to refresh your mind. Avoid scrolling through social media or engaging in discussions that make you feel anxious. Instead, use this time to stay positive, practice breathing exercises, or take short walks to maintain mental clarity.
One or two days before the exam, reduce the intensity of your preparation. Don’t take mock tests just before the final day. Use this time to revise your short notes, formulas, diagrams, and the error notebook you've built. Stay calm, eat healthy, and pack your exam essentials in advance. On the morning of the exam, avoid last-minute cramming. Trust your preparation. Reach the center early, stay composed, and read every instruction carefully. During the paper, stay calm even if the first few questions seem tricky. You can always make up in the other sections. NEET is not a race to finish the paper but a test of patience, accuracy, and smart decision-making.
Scoring 700+ in NEET is achievable—not just by toppers, but by anyone who uses the last days wisely. Your final score will be a reflection of how well you manage your revision, time, and mindset. Believe in the effort you've put in so far. Keep faith in your hard work, and trust that everything you've studied will come together on the exam day. This is your moment. Make it count.
